Letter to Myself.

I was recently alerted to a wonderful interview with Elizabeth Gilbert on Glennon Doyle’s podcast, We Can Do Hard Things where Liz shares a daily practice she has developed and used over the past couple of years.

The practice consists of writing to herself as her higher power.

(You can listen to her specific journey that led her to the ritual and how exactly she does it, I highly recommend.)

I gave it a shot this week.

As soon as I wake up, I take a couple of minutes to get centered and then I ask the question:

“What would you have me know?”

The first time I did this, I was wondering if there would be anything that came to me.

Turns out, she has A LOT to say.

And by the way, you don’t have to believe in God to do a practice like this.

One could imagine talking to their wiser, elder self if that felt truer for you.

Do it your way, most importantly.

Take the time to imagine what your higher power is and means for you.

A practice like this has the potential to connect us to our deeper longings and inner wisdom and most importantly our inner navigational system.

What did mine have to say?

In a nut shell:
“Minimize your distractions. They cut you off from hearing the whisper. Commit to choices, to practices that keep you clear, keep you connected (rather than disconnected) and support you to move forward. Move towards bliss. Purpose. Feeling whole.”

This has inspired me to cut back on social media and screen time in general.

It has inspired me to make more time for contemplation and meditation.

For journaling. For writing. For walking. For connecting.

That’s my intention for this summer season. And to continue writing to myself as my higher power.

She has more to say, and I will continue listening.

What is yours saying to you? Send me message on instagram or through my contact page! I'd love to hear from you!
