How to be a Confident Singer
Sep 02, 2025Let’s be real: confidence is every singer’s holy grail.
We dream of standing on stage, opening our mouths, and letting the sound out without a single twinge of doubt.
But in reality?
The inner critic shows up every time ready to pounce on any mistake.
Here’s the thing: confidence doesn’t mean you’re never nervous or that you magically stop caring what anyone thinks.
Real confidence is simply about shifting your relationship with yourself and your voice so you can actually enjoy the ride.
But when doubt takes over, most singers fall into one of two camps.
#1 Some shrink.
They sing softer, avoid risks, and hold back .
#2 Others go the opposite route and puff up.
They push harder and work overtime to look like they have it all together.
Neither shrinking nor puffing up feels good.
Both are exhausting. And the kicker? They block the very thing you want most- connection.
With your audience, and with yourself.
The real magic happens behind the facade.
True confidence isn’t about playing it safe or being over the top ; it’s about composure.
That calm, grounded place where you can breathe, sing, and trust that your voice will show up for you.
When you’re there, you don’t have to perform confidence like a costume.
You are confident, because you know yourself.
You can ride the nerves.
You can handle mistakes.
You can actually have fun up there.
And audiences?
They can feel it.
They don’t want perfection; they want a singer who is real, alive, and enjoying what they’re doing.
Here’s the catch: you can’t just think your way into that place.
You can’t read your way there, or cover your mirror in sticky-note affirmations and hope for the best. (Though sticky notes are great!! I’m not anti-sticky note. )
Confidence is built the old-fashioned way: through practice.
Practice that goes beyond just running scales on autopilot- practice that helps you explore your voice, quiet the inner diva critic, and collect real experiences of, “Hey, I can actually do this.”
That’s where private lesson come in.
Getting one-on-one support is a game changer.
Confidence isn’t something you wait around for and hope appears like a lightning bolt from the sky- it’s something you build.
Week by week, breath by breath, note by note.
With lessons, you get into a regular routine, you get practical tools, and someone by your side to guide you, cheer you on, and (let’s be honest) keep you accountable when your inner critic starts getting bossy.
Together, we’ll work on your technique, yes, but also on the things that really get in the way of vocal freedom- the fears, the blocks, and that sneaky voice in your head telling you you’re not good enough.
I create a safe and loving space where you can explore, play, and grow, because confidence only happens when you feel free to take risks.
That’s when you discover your authentic sound- which, spoiler alert, is probably a lot more beautiful and powerful than you’ve been giving yourself credit for.
These lessons aren’t one-size-fits-all. They’re tailored to you- your needs, your goals, your dreams.
→ Maybe you’re a professional singer who wants to tune up and feel inspired again.
→ Maybe you’re a former singer who misses the joy of expressing yourself and is ready to let go of the fear and reclaim your identity.
→ Maybe you’ve had lessons in the past, or maybe you’re “singer curious” and just know, deep down, that connecting to your voice is the next step in becoming more fully yourself.
Wherever you are on the journey, we’ll start there.
Since consistency is everything, I’m offering a fall package of 14 private lessons, good through December. That’s more than enough time to build momentum, ditch the shrinking and puffing up, and experiment with some delightfully weird warmups that will make you laugh-snort.
More importantly, it’s enough time to start stepping into a kind of confidence that feels steady, joyful, and like home.
So if you’re ready to put in the work- with encouragement, humor, and the occasional kazoo-like vocal exercise (BIG fan of SOVT exercises over here!)- I’d love to work with you.
Because confidence isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being free enough to sound like yourself, and to love that sound.
