For the singer who feels like they've lost it.
Mar 25, 2026When someone downloads my free, Joyful Singing Starter Kit, there is a place on my website to leave a me message, letting me know why they are drawn to this work.
I have received THOUSANDS of messages since I first offered this almost 2 years ago.
What do I hear the most?
“I miss singing.”
Along with…
“My voice doesn’t feel the same… and I don’t know how to get it back.”
I love receiving these messages. There is so much honesty, so much heart, longing AND optimism.
And yes, there is also fear.
Underneath it, there’s a deep fear, that’s not explicitly said:
➡ What if my voice is gone for good?
➡ What if I try again… and I sound different?
➡ What if I’ve lost something I can’t get back?
➡ What if I don’t “have it” anymore?
Can you relate to any of this?
What I see happening with so many is the tendency then to put it off.
To tell ourselves we’ll come back to it when we have more time, more energy, more confidence.
And in the meantime, something important stays tucked away.
Your desire, your identity, your longing, your PASSION.
You’re not alone in this.
Here are just a few other things singers have shared with me recently:
- “I got ill so I gave up. I’m getting my passion back but my voice is not the same as it used to be.”
- “I miss singing.”
- “I used to be a singer… I stopped for 10 years.”
- “My voice is no longer what it used to be.
- “I want to reconnect with my love for singing again.”
There are so many versions of this story.
But the thread is the same:
The desire to sing is still there.
And that MATTERS.
Because desire doesn’t stick around for no reason.
It’s a signal. 🔥
A signal that this part of you is still in there… even if it feels distant right now.
Here’s what I want you to know:
Your voice is not something you “had” once and lost forever.
Your voice is something you have a relationship with.
And like any relationship, it can go quiet.
It can feel unfamiliar.
It probably will need care, attention, and time to reconnect.
But it’s not gone.
And one of the biggest misconceptions I see is that getting your voice back is just about technique.
“I need better breath support.”
“Better warm-ups.”
“I need to improve my range.”
And while YES, those things absolutely matter….but if we only focus on technique, we will be less likely to stay motivated, less likely to stick with it, less likely to get underneath the bigger issues and we will miss the bigger picture.
The real blocks are often:
-Fear.
-Self-doubt.
-Not knowing where to start and how to stick with it.
-Feeling blocked.
-Feeling like you’ve fallen too far behind.
Underneath all of that is the belief of, “Maybe I just don’t have it anymore.”
What I’ve seen over and over again….in my own journey and in the singers I work with is that the key is to change the way you relate to your voice.
➡️ When you bring in curiosity instead of "I need to conquer this" energy…
➡️ When you allow space for your voice to be where it is…
➡️ When you take small steps and stay consistent…
Your voice DOES begin to come back.
Not always in the exact same way.
But often in a way that feels more grounded and more you.
There are so many reasons people find their way back to their voice…after illness, loss. After years of not singing. After life simply taking over.
And yes, the journey can feel challenging.
The blocks can feel real.
But it is possible.
You can sing again & regain this part of yourself you thought was lost.
And if you’re in that place right now where you miss singing, but don’t quite know how to begin,…
Or you are ready to relate to your voice differently….
Or you love singing and want more inspiration….
I’m creating something for you. Something I’m VERY VERY excited about.
Something that speaks to all of it.
Not just the technique…
But the mindset, the emotions, the blocks, the whole experience of being a singer.
It’s a new podcast I've created coming your way, beginning next week.
I’ll be sharing more very soon.
For now, just know-your voice is still there!
It may need time and some care, maybe even a different approach… but it’s not gone.
I’m here for you, I’m in your corner, cheering you on was always!
